Three days in Finnish Capital- Helsinki

Image
Helsinki, the flamboyant capital of Finland is a city full of impressive architecture, contemporary art and innovative designs. It is still considered as an off-beat destination when Indians travel to Scandinavian countries. Flights from India: Finnair operates directly from Delhi to Helsinki 4 times a week Helsinki airport is 30-40 mins away from city center. I had booked Uber which costed me around 30 euros to reach city center from Helsinki airport. Accommodation: There are various pretty places listed on  Airbnb  to stay in between 4k-6k per day. Helsinki card: This card is a complete package which provides unlimited access to public transport including buses, metros, trams, local trains and ferries. This also includes free entry to 25+ top attractions and museums in Helsinki. You can even ride on Hop on Hop off bus with this card. You can buy Helsinki Card  here  for 1, 2 and 3 days. It costs around 71 euros for 3 days which includes airport travel ...

MY NAME IS RASNA AND I AM NOT A DRINK!

Image
Rasna, the domineering brand in the soft drinks category in 80s and 90s was introduced in 1976 by Pioma industries as a ready-to-drink mix product called Jaffe. Its name was later changed to Rasna, which is related to Hindi word ras (juice). My Super creative parents found it so marvelous that I was named after it and I am unerringly the only person I know with my name and have always had a love/hate relationship with my name Nothing irks me more than the people who hear my name for the first time, become so inquisitive and infuriate me by asking what's the scoop behind your name. A big smile plastered on my face does not show the full-fledged rage I have hidden. I just try to avoid the state of undying feud:D I repeatedly get asked why my parents gave me “this name.” Everybody so wants to know the meaning of my name. I really don't know where to start! :/ People generally have to ask me to repeat my name so they seldom forget me. Their reactions are so freakish. ...

A day without Meftal....The Leak Week talk!

Image
I am trying really hard to remember that who introduced me to this amazing drug meftal spas, an angel from heaven’s above for taking away all the pain. Girls are doomed to spend eternity with it.  Although I am not critically dependent on it and I constantly brag about it to my girl friends. But still I keep an ample stock of it with me. It generally gets finished only by offering to the needy ones. My closest friend who recently shifted to Scotland  told me that she is treating her limited stock  of meftal as gold! Suddenly God scheduled a test of endurance for me. The Shark week commenced!!! And I was in office suffering from severe abdominal pain, cramps and discomfort but still I tried to hide my pain with a painted grin. But when I couldn't withstand the agony, looked in vain for the wonder drug in my bag but its absence sucked away my remaining energy and fueled my depression. My hopes were shattered. Since I relocated to a new city for ...

Amie Ki Jawani

Image
Amie was just 15 days old when I brought her home from a vet clinic without telling my parents. For years we have been asking our parents for a puppy but they were always saying no. One day my brother and I took money out of mom’s drawer and headed to pet clinic. We asked for a yellow lab because of our love for the color but doctor told it will be available after 3-4 days. What little patience we had was waning fast and we were uncertain about coming back again. Suddenly I felt something grabbing my toes and feet and saw that tiny little Amie was licking my shoe. “Aww, too adorable, I want to eat you up”, I said and took her in my hands. She was a black lab…why Racism? We forgot about the color and that’s how we got her. I named her Amie because I studied French in my college :D She turned out to be very naughty and attention seeking. She is very famous in the locality for her stupid acts and habit of throwing a temper tantrum like a toddler. She is loved by everyone in t...

Our first tech toy...

Image
I am not sure if you people remember this ad, but it stirs my childhood memories and I take a trip down memory lane when I was a scornful teenager and impervious to the world of responsibilities. I forgot the lyrics as I heard it almost 10 years back. I desperately searched it on YouTube by typing reliance ad and listened patiently to many of them. YouTube is such a great chronicle of memories. Finally I found this astounding piece of music with luscious lyrics. This song has strings attached with the first phone in my house. It was a reliance phone. It almost brought about death of the wristwatch. First hello was as exciting as my first hello world program! :D R world service for internet was free at that time. We used to wait for dad to hand over the mobile to us. All I remember is that there was an option to go into R world and from there different options used to appear like Music, News, Astrology, Cricket etc. I have faded memories of listening to tanha Dil song by Sha...

Karma just takes too long Sir!

Image
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has apologized for the comments he made at a conference where he said that women should not ask for a raise , they should trust 'karma' and should have faith in system. His comments have sparked antagonism among female techies and various professional leaders. Isn't this fiercely sexist to tell women for not asking pay raises? Recollecting your Indian roots in this controversial manner was not expected from you dear Satya! But as we all know Karma is such a bitch and it has always missed on so many people :D so we can't trust it. Ironically he is from the industry where there is no gender diversity. but it is good that he clearly apologized and did not twist his words. He just accepted that he was completely wrong and said that he learnt a valuable lesson. So after this incident I went through corporate Gender Gap Report brought out by world economic forum which says that India has the lowest percentage of women employees and also if...
